The City of La Crosse is launching an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Design Competition with the help of an AARP Community Challenge grant. The intent is to spur creativity and interest around a potential solution for missing middle housing. The competition invites architects, designers, and innovators to submit their best ADU design for one of three $3,000 prizes. The City is partnering with AARP and AIA Wisconsin to promote design excellence and housing variety.
Key Dates:
• Submission Deadline: October 20, 2024
• Finalist Notification: November 6, 2024
• Open House & Winner Announcement: November 21, 2024
Competitors are tasked with developing an ADU design concept for the subject site that meets the munic-ipal code requirements. The submissions should highlight its accessibility, sustainability, and affordability. All submissions will be evaluated to ensure they meet technical requirements. Then, a design jury will review qualifying submissions and select a shortlist of finalists. Those on the shortlist will present their designs at a public open house. All qualifying submissions will be featured on the City of La Crosse’s ADU Library Website, providing visibility to designers and inspiration to homeowners considering ADUs.
