The Nature Place is taking a bold step toward sustainability by installing solar panels on its roof. Located in Myrick Park along the scenic Marsh Trails of La Crosse, this community center is dedicated to inspiring and cultivating meaningful connections between people and nature, for the benefit of both through environmental education and nature-based learning experiences for all ages.
By integrating solar energy into its operations, The Nature Place is reinforcing its commitment to land stewardship and sustainability while creating long-term benefits for the La Crosse community. The project includes the installation of 136 Solar Panels with 34 microinverters, allowing for energy conversion and greater efficiency.
A Brighter Future for the Community
Switching to solar energy is expected to reduce electricity costs by hundreds of thousands of dollars, with a projected 78.88% offset annually. These savings mean more resources can be directed toward free community programming, nature-based education, and environmental initiatives—ensuring that The Nature Place continues to serve as a hub for learning and exploration.
Sustainability & Solar Education
Beyond cost savings, this project will help The Nature Place enhance its sustainability efforts and incorporate solar energy education into its programs. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about renewable energy firsthand, inspiring future generations to embrace sustainable solutions.
Fundraising Efforts
In late March, the Board of Park Commissioners approved The Nature Place’s project, allowing it to move into the next phase of public awareness and fundraising. It has been able to secure $116,700 in private donations, grants and incentives toward the total installation cost of $167,000. Community support is essential to reach the remaining goal for installation in 2025, and the Nature Place is inviting individuals and organizations to join in making the solar array a reality.
