City of La Crosse Hires Sustainability Coordinator Funded by WisCorps

The City of La Crosse is happy to announce the hiring of Leo Strand as Sustainability Coordinator. The position is a 1-year assignment coordinated and administered through WisCorps. Leo will focus on implementing the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP).

Leo was the right choice for the position because of his deep passion for promoting sustainable practices and his solid foundation in research methods. He also has a strong academic background in environmental work and sustainability. He is pursuing a Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Environmental Studies and Political Science, with minors in Public Policy and History.

Leo is a self-taught bicycle mechanic. He worked throughout high school to donate many bicycles to people in need across Rock County, WI. His volunteer work continued after high school, volunteering at a local community farm.

“What particularly excites me about the Sustainability Coordinator position is its commitment to sustainability through collaboration,” Leo explained. “I believe this is an excellent approach to creating environmentally friendly changes that will be more resilient and last for the long term. Additionally, I recognize the significant role that local municipalities play in advancing sustainability initiatives, and I am eager to contribute to the team in La Crosse.”
